Day 7: Panic (Inktober Flash Fiction)

You don’t know it’s coming until it’s there. And you can’t do a thing about it once it arrives. It’s really an unfair arrangement, but that’s the cost of adventure. You close your eyes; they’re useless now. You hear a slurp, a squeak, a squelch. You’ve been trying not to panic and you were actually doing quite well until the squelch. Your stomach drops, and you feel heat, moistness behind you. Did you just…? No, you’re not that far gone! But it’s…warmer than you expected. Something so heartless ought to be cold, but it’s not. Your heels are in it now, and your shoulders, and your cranium. You jut your pelvis forward like you might spare your middle from its appetite, but it just means your codpiece is the last thing anyone will see of you. You should’ve opened the chest. A mimic and this would be over already.

Wait. What the fuck is this?
